Research shows that 65% of today’s school children will end up working in jobs that don’t currently exist.
The world of work is changing all the time – and fast. Jobs have emerged that didn’t exist 5 or 10 years ago.
This
is the scenario that our children will face, when they enter the
workforce. As parents, we need to do our best to prepare them for such a
situation.
Thus, it’s important to know, and to understand the in-built skills or the aptitude that your child has, and build on it from there. What interest’s her, what does she like doing and what motivates her. It’s no longer safe to assume that high marks = interest.
A set of Scientific-tools / assessments which measure:-
Interests - curiosity or predisposition towards certain fields or activities
Personality - who you are & how you interact with the world around you.
Skills & Aptitude - what you are good at & what your natural talents are.
Just like any process of planning, it involves identifying the variables that may impact your future, understanding them and then working on them. The end result is a road-map where different alternatives are prioritised, and milestones are identified.
Parents have a crucial role in forming student’s career. Parents should help in the exploration of the right career option for their children. However, they should not impose their decision on children while choosing stream and should encourage their kids to follow their own dream. Positive parenting like giving valuable advice and support help children to grow in an area of his interest and abilities.
